ERASMUS UROLOGY RESEARCH

Epidemiology

The Urology Research Office, under the guidance of Prof. Monique Roobol, aims to transform clinical
and patient-reported outcome data into easy-to-use prediction tools that will help patients and their
caretakers in the many decisions they face during their patient’s journey. Our main focus is on
prostate cancer, which is the most diagnosed cancer amongst men in the Western world. Support is,
however, also provided to other urological malignancies such as testis carcinoma and bladder cancer.
But also benign conditions like hypospadias, and urinary incontinence are part of our research
portfolio. Currently, we have the following five main research leads:

Biobanking, data management

Project coordination and data management form an indispensable part of starting and running an (international) research project (among others, ERSPC, PRIAS, GAP3, ProBio and Anser).Read more

Clinical decision models

In 2009 the ERSPC study showed for the first time that screening for prostate cancer leads to a mortality reduction for men in the screening arm of the study as compared to men who received usual care (control group). Read more

Big data research

PIONEER (prostate-pioneer.eu) is the European network of excellence for big data in prostate cancer. PIONEER aims to combine and analyse the patient records of men diagnosed with prostate cancer Read more

Quality of life research

Oncological outcomes are often the primary outcome in cancer research. Patient-reported outcome data can give meaning to these oncological outcomes and are therefore unbearable in decision-making for prostate cancer.Read more

Statistics in urology

The Urology Research Office provides statistical help and guidance for many projects within the department of Urology, Erasmus MC, as well as for other projects. Read more
