Gene expression profiling
In recent years, gene expression profiling has revealed that Muscle Invasive Bladder Cancer (MIBC) is a heterogeneous disease; like breast cancer, it can be stratified into different molecular subtypes. At the highest level, there is a division into basal and luminal subtypes, with different models providing additional subdivisions. Importantly, we believe that stratifying MIBC by molecular subtyping has potential clinical value in terms of predicting both outcome and response to treatment, such as neo-adjuvant chemotherapy or immunotherapy. For this reason, our research focuses on the translation of gene-expression patterns into the clinic, by developing diagnostic classification models that can be used for patient tailored treatment selection.
