Erasmus Urology Research
The Erasmus MC Center of Expertise for Rare Urinary Tract and Testicular Tumors has joined the eUROGEN European Reference Network
The European Reference Networks (ERNs) are networks of centers of expertise for rare, complex diseases. These ERNs are financially supported by the European Union.
One of the 24 ERNs is eUROGEN, a network of centers from 15 European countries with expertise in the field of rare urogenital diseases. These urogenital diseases consist of rare congenital anomalies, functional diseases that require surgical treatment and rare forms of urogenital cancers.
The purpose of the eUROGEN network is to gather experts for the exchange of knowledge of these rare diseases. Exchange programs are established, for example for surgical training. Moreover, multidisciplinary boards are facilitated via an online platform where patient cases can be discussed as to formulate the best possible treatment plans. Registration of treatment outcomes from patients all over Europe enables research. Through research clinical guidelines on rare urogenital diseases can be improved.
The Erasmus MC Center of Expertise for Rare Urinary Tract and Testicular Tumors has joined eUROGEN as an expertise center for testicular cancer. Dr. Tahlita Zuiverloon and dr. Arnout Alberts are delighted as coordinators to have joined eUROGEN: “The collaboration within the European network will definitely improve the care of testicular cancer patients within our center!”.
